Description
By appointment only. Bee venom therapy is a traditional apitherapy practice in which honeybee venom is introduced in a controlled way, commonly through live bee stings or prepared venom administered by trained medical professionals in clinical settings.
Many clients are interested in bee venom because peer-reviewed literature discusses bee venom compounds such as melittin, apamin, phospholipase A2, and hyaluronidase, and their studied anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antimicrobial, neuroprotective, and immune-modulating activity. This page is educational only: bee venom therapy is not a cure, is not a substitute for medical care, and should not be used to diagnose, treat, or prevent disease without guidance from a qualified healthcare professional.
What the literature discusses
- Inflammation and pain: Reviews describe laboratory and clinical interest in bee venom and melittin for inflammatory pathways, arthritis-related symptoms, and pain modulation.
- Immune response: European allergy literature recognizes venom immunotherapy as an evidence-based medical treatment for people with confirmed Hymenoptera venom allergy, performed by allergy specialists to reduce risk from future stings.
- Research stage: Many proposed benefits of bee venom components are still being studied. Some findings are preclinical or complementary-medicine literature and should not be read as guaranteed treatment outcomes.
Important cautions
- Allergy/anaphylaxis risk: Bee venom can cause severe allergic reactions, including life-threatening anaphylaxis. Do not book if you have a known bee, wasp, hornet, yellow-jacket, or venom allergy unless cleared by your physician/allergist.
- Higher-risk situations: Speak with a clinician first if you have asthma, mast cell disease/mastocytosis, heart disease, immune disorders, are pregnant or nursing, take beta blockers/ACE inhibitors/blood thinners, or have had a severe reaction to any sting.
- Emergency preparedness: People with prior systemic sting reactions are commonly advised in European allergy guidance to carry an emergency kit such as an epinephrine/adrenaline autoinjector and antihistamine/corticosteroid as directed by a physician.
- Not venom immunotherapy: Understory Harvest appointments are not a medical allergy desensitization program. Clinical venom immunotherapy is a separate physician-supervised treatment performed with standardized venom products and protocols.
How it is administered here
Sessions are scheduled directly so we can discuss suitability, timing, and safety before any appointment. A session uses controlled live bee stings administered to selected points. A dose is approximately 15 bees/stings.
- Small dose: approximately 15 bees/stings — $15
- Medium dose: approximately 15 bees/stings — $50
Please contact us before booking if this is your first session, if you have any history of unusual sting reactions, or if you have medical questions that should be reviewed with your healthcare provider.
